PM Shehbaz Sharif Chairs NEC Session to Finalise Pakistan Budget 2026-27 Development Programme

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has chaired a session of the National Economic Council (NEC) at the Prime Minister House to review and deliberate on Pakistan’s development programme for the upcoming financial year 2026-27, ahead of the federal budget announcement.

The session was attended by chief ministers from across the country’s provinces, federal ministers, Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah, and other senior officials. Participants received a detailed briefing on the proposed development programme for FY 2026-27, covering key economic targets and the distribution of development funds between the federal government and the provincial governments.

According to sources, the total proposed volume of the development programme for the next financial year stands at Rs 4,715 billion. “There is a proposal to allocate Rs. 1,126 billion to the federal government and Rs. 3,138 billion for the provinces,” sources disclosed. Additionally, the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) is likely to be enhanced by Rs 200 billion above the initially proposed figures.

Chief Ministers Sohail Afridi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murad Ali Shah of Sindh, and Sarfaraz Bugti of Balochistan, along with Punjab’s Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, federal ministers, and other senior officials all arrived at the Prime Minister House to participate in the high-level NEC session.
