Karachi Court Sentences Atif Zaman to Death Twice in Mureed Abbas Murder Case

A local court in Karachi has announced its verdict in the murder case of television anchor Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat, sentencing the main convict, Atif Zaman, to two death penalties. The court also imposed a fine of Rs1 million on the convict as part of its judgment.

The court issued perpetual arrest warrants for co-accused Adil Zaman, who absconded after his bail was rejected. He had already been declared a proclaimed offender by the trial court, and authorities have been directed to continue efforts to arrest him.

The verdict was delivered seven years after the murder of Mureed Abbas, who was shot dead on July 9, 2019, in Karachi. The case remained under trial for several years before the court reached its final decision.
