Ishaq Dar Meets IMO Secretary-General in London, Seeks Early Release of Pakistani Seafarers

LONDON: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez in London to discuss maritime cooperation and the safety of Pakistani seafarers.

During the meeting, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to the IMO and appreciated its role as the principal international regulatory body for safe, secure and efficient international shipping.

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the IMO Secretary-General for his support in ongoing efforts to secure the safe release of 10 Pakistani seafarers being held captive aboard MT Honour 25. He called for urgent and effective institutional intervention to facilitate their early and safe return.

Dar also highlighted Pakistan’s continued efforts to strengthen maritime governance, implement international maritime standards and further develop the country’s blue economy.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance Pakistan-IMO cooperation in maritime safety and security, regulatory reforms and the development of Pakistan’s maritime sector.
