US Pressure Strengthening Ties Among Muslim Countries, Pezeshkian Tells Naqvi

TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said US pressure and actions in the region have contributed to greater cooperation and interaction among Muslim countries, citing the increasing engagement between Iran and Pakistan as an example.

Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran on Monday, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.

The Iranian president welcomed the growing trajectory of Iran-Pakistan relations and called for further expansion of cooperation in trade, energy, tourism, investment, culture and science.

“We are pleased that you are continuously following up on the process of bilateral cooperation,” Pezeshkian said, stressing the need for continued engagement across different sectors.

Iran-Pakistan Cooperation

Pezeshkian described Iran and Pakistan as two important regional countries with significant human resources and natural resources.

He said greater coordination between the two countries could help them meet more of their needs by relying on domestic and regional capabilities.

The Iranian president also called for increased joint investment and stronger communication between institutions and economic sectors in both countries.

Naqvi said Pakistan was committed to further strengthening relations with Iran and expanding cooperation in trade, economy, tourism, politics, culture and science.

He also said relations between Pakistan and Iran had reached a high level and expressed Islamabad’s determination to further develop bilateral ties.

Naqvi Meets Iranian Interior Minister

Earlier, Naqvi met his Iranian counterpart, Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, in Tehran.

The two ministers reviewed progress on ongoing cooperation between their interior ministries and discussed bilateral relations as well as the latest regional situation.

Momeni thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts toward regional peace and stability.

He also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in the region, describing Naqvi’s visit as beneficial.

Naqvi said Pakistan and Iran would continue working to further strengthen bilateral relations in the coming period.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Engagement

The meetings took place amid continuing tensions between Iran and the United States and broader diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions.

Pakistan has maintained engagement with both Tehran and Washington during the conflict and has been involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating dialogue and reducing tensions.

Iranian officials have also emphasised that Naqvi’s latest visit was focused primarily on bilateral relations, while discussions between Tehran and Washington remain part of the wider regional diplomatic landscape.
