Ishaq Dar, Guatemala FM Discuss Bilateral Ties, Regional Peace and Energy Security

New York: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The two ministers reaffirmed the friendly and cordial relations between Pakistan and Guatemala.

They welcomed the signing of the Agreement on Bilateral Political Consultations, noting that it would provide an institutional framework for regular engagement and help strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The Guatemalan foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

The two sides exchanged views on the implications of ongoing crises for energy supplies and underscored the importance of the free flow of energy and maritime trade. They also stressed the role of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional challenges.

Both ministers highlighted the importance of multilateralism in addressing global challenges and reaffirmed their commitment to multilateral institutions, particularly the United Nations.

The Guatemalan foreign minister also appreciated Pakistan’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping.

The two sides agreed to remain in contact on matters of mutual interest.
