No Talks With PTI Until September 27 March Is Postponed, Rana Sanaullah Says

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said formal negotiations with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) cannot proceed unless the party postpones its planned September 27 long march towards Islamabad.

Speaking to a private television channel, Sanaullah said security arrangements had been made in the capital, including the placement of containers along roadsides, while maintaining that roads remained open.

He said backchannel contacts with PTI leadership were continuing, but formal negotiations would remain conditional on the postponement of the planned march.

Government Rules Out Storming of Islamabad

Sanaullah said the PTI was continuing to make statements about the proposed march, while suggesting that the mobilisation might not materialise as planned.

He stressed that the government would not allow anyone to “storm” Islamabad.

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions ahead of the PTI’s planned September 27 protest, which the party has linked to demands concerning its incarcerated founder, Imran Khan.

Backchannel Contacts Continue

Despite the disagreement over the march, Sanaullah said contacts between the government and PTI representatives were still taking place through backchannels.

Recent reports have also indicated that government and PTI representatives have been in contact over the planned mobilisation, although the two sides have yet to reach a breakthrough.

The government has maintained that security and public order must be taken into consideration, while PTI continues to maintain its plan for the September 27 protest.
