Police-lawyers clashes resume after a pause at LHC

Clashes between police and lawyers have resumed after a pause following protesting lawyers attempted to enter the Lahore High Court.

Police have arrested several lawyers, who were holding a protest rally against division of civil courts and terrorism cases against their colleagues.

Earlier. pitched battles erupted between police and protesting lawyers after the latter during a rally tried to enter the high court and remove barriers erected outside the court premises.

Police used tear gas and baton charges to break up rally of protesting lawyers. They also used water canon to disperse the lawyers. Tear gas shells badly affected the GTV reporter and cameraman present there to cover the lawyers’ rally.

Police have shut down all the entrances to the Lahore High Court and arrested one of the protesting lawyer.

Passengers present at the nearby Orange Line Station ran to save their lives during the clashes between the police and lawyers.

Traffic police have diverted traffic on the roads in the affected area.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz taking notice of the clashes directed the Inspector General of Police to avoid use of power against the lawyers.

She also requested to the lawyers to amicably resolve the matter with the Lahore High Court.
