28 February, 2024 09:55

The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Jamaat-e-Islami and JUI-F have announced to widen the scope of their ongoing protests against rigging in the general election results.

Addressing a protest against the alleged irregularities in the general election results outside the Karachi Press Club, GDA General Secretary Safdar Abbasi said that a 10-member committee has been formed which would determine the future course of action. We will not let the government-led by PPP run, he said.

Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Naib Ameer Osama Razi said that on February 8, people made a peaceful revolution. The country will run according to the Constitution and not according to the will of the powerful people, he added.

A large number of workers and leaders of GDA, Jamaat-e-Islami and JUI-F participated in the protest.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan assemblies’ session will be held today, during which newly elected members will take oath.

The names of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker candidates for both the assemblies have not been announced yet.

In the first session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly today, the newly elected members of the assembly will take oath. 21 seats for women and 4 seats for minorities will remain vacant if there is no decision regarding the allocation of specific seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council.
