Polling underway to elect 14th President of Pakistan

Who will become the 14th President of Pakistan as polling underway across Pakistan assemblies which will end around 04.00 PM on Saturday.

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is up against Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s Mahamood Khan Achakzai.

The polling started at 10.15 PM and will continue till 04.00 PM in the evening.

A joint session of the parliament is being held at the Parliament House, in which the members of the National Assembly and the Senate exercised their right to vote.

The polling is presided over by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.

Senator Sherry Rehman and Senator Shafiq Tareen are the polling agents of Asif Ali Zardari and Mahmood Khan Achakzai respectively.

Jamiat ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUIF) is boycotting the elections.

Polling for the presidential election also begun at the Sindh Assembly, where Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) Abdul Wasim cast the first vote from Sindh.

Prior to the polling, the ballot box was sealed in the presence of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, PPP’s Mukesh Kumar Chawala and MQM-P’s Abdul Basit.

Similarly, polling is also underway at the Punjab Assembly as well.

 In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Ibrahim presiding over the electoral process.

At least 118 members of the KP Assembly are participating in the presidential polls today.

Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan is presiding over the polling process in the Balochistan Assembly.
