Punjab Assembly: Malik Ahmed elected speaker, Malik Zaheer his deputy

During the second session of the Punjab Assembly, PML-N’s Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan and Malik Zahiraq Iqbal were elected as Speaker and  Deputy Speaker respectively.

Speaker Assembly Sabtain Khan presided over the session, which started with a delay of 33 minutes.

According to the polling results, Malik Ahmed Khan was elected Speaker of Punjab Assembly with 225 votes, beating Ahmad Khan Bhachar of Sunni Itthead Council. Ahmad Khan Bhachar of Sunni Ittehad Council only managed to get 96 votes. A total of 320 votes were declared valid while two votes were rejected.

Later, newly elected Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan took oath.

PML-N’s Zaheer Iqbal Chand was elected Deputy Speaker beating Sunni Ittehad Council’s Moin Riaz.

Malik Zaheer Iqbal got 220 votes while Moin Riaz Qureshi got only 103 votes.

Later, Zaheer Iqbal took oath after being elected Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif while congratulating Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan on being elected to the Punjab Assembly said that he will run the House in a constitutional and efficient manner.

The nomination papers for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly were submitted earlier on Friday.
