Eidul Fitr 2025 Expected Date: Shawwal moon expected to be sighted on March 30

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that the crescent for Shawwal 1446 AH is expected to be visible on the evening of March 30, 2025, signaling the arrival of Eidul Fitr.

Based on astronomical assessments, the birth of the new moon is calculated to occur at 15:58 PST on March 29, 2025. The PMD has indicated a “strong likelihood” of the crescent being sighted the following evening, paving the way for Eid celebrations.

However, meteorological projections suggest that various regions may experience partly cloudy skies, which could potentially hinder visibility in some locations.

Additionally, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has also anticipated that Eidul Fitr is most likely to fall on March 31, 2025.

To officially confirm the commencement of Eid, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with zonal and district moon-sighting committees, will convene on March 30. Their deliberations will authenticate the crescent sighting and finalize the nationwide date for Eid celebrations.

In preparation for the festivities, the government has officially announced a three-day public holiday from March 31 to April 2, 2025, as per a notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat.
