A historic day for Maclaren as Lando Norris finally achieved his maiden Formula 1 (F1) victory at the Miami Grand Prix.

The British driver made a perfectly-timed pit stop during a Safety Car period halfway through the race to beat defending champion Max Verstappen.

Norris started the race from P5, with Pole-sitter Verstappen had enjoyed a strong getaway off the line, while Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz both initially overtook Charles Leclerc in the scrap for P2.

The drama occurred in the Lap 29, when a Safety Car was called after a collision between Kevin Magnussen and Logan Sargeant caused the Williams to hit the barriers.

The McLaren driver – who was leading, having no pitted – to make a pit stop and hold onto P1.

He managed to maintain a seven-second gap to second-placed Verstappen at the chequered flag, while Charles Leclerc completed the podium in third ahead of Ferrari team mate Carlos Sainz in fourth.

Perez ended the day in P5, finishing just ahead of Lewis Hamilton in P6.
