Samsung working on slim foldable smartphones

24 May, 2024 19:36

Samsung planning to release new foldable lineup the Galaxy Z Flip 6 in coming months with leaks indicate an even slim variant of the device.

The rumour has been abuzz for quite some time now with speculation of upcoming models carrying potential devices like Galaxy Z Flip FE, Z Fold FE, Z Fold 6 Ultra, and most recently, Z Fold 6 Slim.

The new Slim version have been spotted by GalaxyClub over in The Netherlands, who believes the company might be discreetly working at the time of this writing on “Slim” versions of both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 (translated here).

The slim variant would ditch the S Pen in order to reduce the thickness of the Z Fold 5 and Z Fold 6. It could be joined to the market soon by an even more mysterious and puzzling Galaxy Z Flip 6 Slim.

Because the Z Flip 5 is already quite slender and it comes without any stylus, it is beyond imagination how Samsung intends to make it a reality.

The “normal” Galaxy Z Flip 6 is currently expected to measure 7.4mm in thickness when unfolded and pack a 4,000mAh cell, up from 6.9mm and 3,700mAh on the Z Flip 5, so Samsung does have a little wiggle room as far as the Z Flip 6 Slim is concerned.

The name of the device could probably change eventually as a Z Flip FE or Z Flip 6 FE variant with a reduced price in addition to a thin profile and a smaller than 4,000mAh battery.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also working other devices with a code name “Q6”, “Q6A” and “Q6 SIM”. This means we could see six different foldable devices from the company instead of usual two.

The leaks clearly indicate that company is moving towards expansion of its foldable series.

On top of everything, Ross Young now believes the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is more likely to see daylight in Q1 2025 alongside the Galaxy S25 family than in Q4 2024.
