Sharjeel blames ‘illegal settlers’ for Karachi street crimes

Sindh senior minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has blamed illegal settlers for out of control Karachi’s street crimes.

As many as 10 people lost their lives during the holy month of Ramadan and many others were injured as well.

About 6,780 street crime incidents were reported in Sindh’s capital city, while 20 vehicles were snatched and more than 130 others stolen, report revealed.

At least 830 motorcycles were snatched and 4,200 others stolen during Ramadan.

Last year, Tens of thousands of street crimes were registered by the police and about 100 people lost their lives, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan had said.

“The Sindh government is making every possible effort to control street crimes […] Illegal settlers are the cause of street crime,” Memon told reports after Eid ul Fitr prayers in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Imran Yaqoob revealed that 300,000 to 400,000 professional beggars head towards the post city in Ramadan.
