Shehbaz, Raisi hold joint presser

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a joint news conference along with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.  

“I welcome the President of Iran and his delegation to Pakistan”, the prime minister said and added: “It is a matter of happiness for me that the president of the Iran has made the first to Pakistan during my tenure.”

Shehbaz said that Pakistan has a long-standing brotherly relations with Iran.

Speaking on the occasion, Raisi said that the land of Pakistan is respectable for us.

He added: “I am grateful to the government of Pakistan for the excellent hospitality.” He conveyed greetings to the people of Pakistan on behalf of the Supreme Leader of Iran.

He said that it is necessary to end the ongoing Israeli aggression in Palestine as the people of Gaza are being massacred.

The Iranian president said that the people of Gaza will get their right and justice one day. He further said the Security Council is not fulfilling its responsibilities on the issue of Gaza.

We have historical relations with our friend and neighbour Pakistan, the Iranian president told the news conference.

He said: “Nobody can sever Pakistan’s relations with Iran.” Raisi said that the people of Iran have turned sanctions into opportunities.

During a meeting, earlier, the two leaders discussed the development of relations and cooperation in various fields. Discussions were also held on enhancing trade and communication links between the two brotherly countries.  The two leaders agreed on joint efforts to counter terrorism.

Shehbaz and Raisi unveiled a plaque naming a newly-constructed road as Iran Avenue.

On the occasion, the two sides inked eight memorandum of understandings (MoUs) for cooperation in various fields.

Earlier, Iranian President Ebrahim was presented the Guard of Honour upon arrival at the Prime Minister House.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accorded a warn welcome to the Iranian president at the PM House.

On the occasion, national anthems of both the brotherly countries were played. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif introduced his cabinet members to the Iranian president. Ebrahim Raisi also planted a sapling at the PM House.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, earlier, along with a high-level delegation has reached Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on a three-day official visit.

The Iranian president is also accompanied by the First Lady and foreign minister.

Several important agreements are likely to be signed during the three-day visit of Raisi.

President Raisi will meet President Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Senate chairman, and Speaker of National Assembly.
