BCCI provides update on India’s Champions Trophy participation in Pakistan

13 July, 2024 19:11

Contrary to recent reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has denied plans to request a change of venue for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Pakistan next year.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla clarified to Indian outlet that no official statement has been made regarding the matter, dispelling rumors of not India not visiting for Champions Trophy 2025.

This development comes after a prolonged period of strained cricketing relations between India and Pakistan, with the last bilateral series occurring in 2013.

Since then, the two nations have only faced each other in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been proactive in preparing for the Champions Trophy, allocating a substantial budget to upgrade three stadiums: Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Arena, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi assured that the stadiums will meet international standards by the time of the Champions Trophy, scheduled to run from February 19th to March 9th.
