Fakhar Zaman in trouble ahead of Australia series
It looks like Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman is in trouble as Pakistan selectors are mulling over the squad for upcoming limited-overs series against Australia.
Not only Fakhar is facing fitness problems with his knee, but also disciplinary action is currently being taken against him.
According to Cricket Pakistan, his selection for the upcoming tour in highly unlikely.
The left hander recently failed a fitness test upon his return from a long trip back from the West Indies, where he was tasked with completing a 2-kilometer run in 8 minutes—a challenge he could not meet.
It is reported that, the selectors want to rest the batter, despite he is fit to play matches as he has been doing in domestic cricket. They believe placing additional strain on his knee could lead to a serious injury.
While Aaqib Javed has relaxed the fitness standards for team selection, Fakhar’s candid remarks during the recent connection camp regarding his No Objection Certificate (NOC) did not sit well with certain top board officials (excluding the chairman).
Moreover, he also raised voice for Babar Azam, who was axed from the squad for second Test against England due to form.
Some former cricketers had suggested that Fakhar be handed the white-ball captaincy, but now even his place in the team is not guaranteed.
