Zimbabwe create new world record in T20Is
Zimbabwe cricket team has set a new world record for the highest team total in T20 International cricket, smashing 344 runs in their 20 overs.
The team achieved the feat during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier B.
The Chevrons surpassed the previous record of 314/3, set by Nepal against Mongolia in 2023. Zimbabwe’s aggressive batting dismantled the Gambia bowling attack from the start, showcasing their intent to dominate.
Led by captain Sikandar Raza, who played a sensational innings of 133* off 43 balls, Zimbabwe’s total was bolstered by contributions from Brian Bennett (50 off 26), wicketkeeper Tadiwanashe Marumani (62 off 19), and Clive Madande, who smashed an unbeaten 53 from just 17 deliveries.
“Everyone played their part, and we’re thrilled to have made history,” Raza said after the match. His innings featured 15 sixes, and he maintained a staggering strike rate of 309.30.
Marumani’s blitz included four sixes and eight fours, while Madande finished with a strike rate of 311.76.
Prior to this record-breaking performance, the highest totals in T20I cricket included Nepal’s 314/3, India’s 297/6, Zimbabwe’s 286/5, and Afghanistan’s 278/3.
