Fakhar Zaman not taking retirement from international cricket
Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman is not considering retiring from international cricket despite being snubbed in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) central contracts list for the 2024-25 season and from the squad.
“Look, he is obviously upset and disappointed because the selectors and board have apparently applied different sets of rules while taking fitness tests and clearing players,” a source close to Zaman said.
Source said that Fakhar was also unhappy because while he did fail to clear the 2km sprint test in given time, some other players had also not met the required time but still were yet picked in the team.
“He feels clarity is required from the selectors on why some players are being favoured,” the source added.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi revealed reason behind the sub as Fakhar has a show cause notice for his tweet and is facing fitness issues.
Fakhar was placed in B category in the central contract last year, but he wasn’t included in the new contract as well as dropped from both Australia and Zimbabwe tours.
According to sources, Fakhar Zaman was invited for a fitness test in the past, but he could not even run 2 km in 8 minutes, on the basis of which he was dropped from the squad.
Some quarters are attributing it to his unbridled conversation at the connection camp and a tweet in favour of Babar Azam.
