Argentina’s Lionel Messi is set to return to FC Barcelona for the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations, according to Radio Catalunya’s Barca Reservat.
Messi, who spent over 17 years at the club, is expected to attend the gala at the Liceu Theatre on November 29, marking his first return to Barcelona since leaving in 2021.
Messi joined Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia academy at the age of 13, overcoming early health challenges to make his senior debut in 2004 at 17.
Over the course of his career, he became the club’s all-time top scorer, with 672 goals scored in 17 years.
Messi’s departure from Barcelona in 2021 came amid financial difficulties faced by the club, which ultimately prevented them from renewing his contract despite earlier assurances from President Joan Laporta.
Reports suggest that Messi, who recently won the World Cup with Argentina, will attend the event at the Liceu Theatre, marking his first public appearance at Barcelona since his emotional farewell in 2021.
