Basit Ali lashes out at Babar Azam
Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali slammed Babar Azam for adapting slow batting approach in the Champions Trophy opener against New Zealand.
The right-hander scored 64 off 90 deliveries, while chasing a 321-run target at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi.
The defending champions lost the match by 60 runs after being bowled out for 261 runs in 47.2 overs.
Basit Ali was among the former players who are criticizing the former Pakistan captain over his slow inning.
The former batter questioned Babar Azam’s approach and the lack of intent to chase the target by taking risks.
“Babar Azam completed his half-century in 81 balls and has managed 64 balls in 90 balls,” he said. “Was he only playing for his milestone? He hit only five boundaries in his knock.”
He went on to pointed out innings played by vice-captain Salman Ali Agha and Khushdil Shah.
“Salman Agha showed more intent than Babar Azam. When we say anything against Babar Azam, people on social media declare us traitors,” the former Pakistan cricketer said.
