“Sarfaraz was removed from captaincy unfairly”

26 February, 2025 10:44

Pakistan Wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed was removed from the captaincy unfairly to make way for Babar Azam, claimed former batter Basit Ali.

The former batter didn’t stop here, as he accused Babar of forming a clique within the team.

He went on to call him a “timid captain” who prioritized friendships.

Basit Ali also criticized the selection process, questioning Usama Mir’s absence from the side.

“Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf were included based on their BPL performances, why Usama was ignored despite performing in the PSL,” he asked.

Basit said that the Bangladesh Premier League is under scrutiny for corruption allegations, yet it is valued over the Pakistan Super League.

He acknowledged PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s efforts in improving stadiums but urged him to address selection issues.

The former batter also pointed out selection vows during the USA and West Indies T20 World Cup. He said that they are still part of the system, despite four chairmen being changed in the past 18 months.
