England fast bowler Archer breaks James Anderson’s 21-year-old record
England fast bowler Jofra Archer has broken his compatriot James Anderson’s 21-year-old record in ODI cricket.
Right-arm fast bowler Jofra Archer set a new record by performing brilliantly against Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy match at Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.
Archer took two important wickets at the start of Afghanistan’s innings and with this, he became the fastest England bowler to take 50 wickets in ODI cricket, breaking the record of great fast bowler James Anderson.
Earlier, James Anderson had achieved this milestone in 31 matches against the West Indies in 2004, but the 29-year-old Archer achieved this feat by taking 50 wickets in just 30 matches.
The world record for the fastest 50 wickets in ODI cricket is held by former Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis, who achieved this feat in just 19 matches in 2009.
On Wednesday, Afghanistan defeated England by 8 runs in a crucial Group B match and knocked them out of the Champions Trophy.
In the match played in Lahore, Afghanistan’s team played first and scored 325 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Chasing a target of 326 runs, England were bowled out for 317 runs in the last over.
