Mohsin Naqvi appointed President of Asian Cricket Council
Mohsin Naqvi rejects Zardari removal rumours
Pakistan’s cricket chief, Mohsin Naqvi, has been picked to lead the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), according to insiders. The decision was made during an online meeting on Thursday, and an official announcement is expected soon.
Naqvi replaces Sri Lanka’s Shammi Silva, who took over the role just last December from India’s Jay Shah, now the head of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Silva’s time in charge was brief, ending with Naqvi’s appointment.
The move comes as cricket officials try to ease tensions between Pakistan and India ahead of next year’s Champions Trophy and Asia Cup. Originally, India was supposed to host the 2025 Asia Cup, but reports suggest it might now be moved to a neutral location—likely Dubai or Sri Lanka. This follows a pattern from recent years: when India refused to tour Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, matches were split between Pakistan and the UAE. Similarly, the 2023 Asia Cup saw four games in Pakistan and nine in Sri Lanka.
The ACC includes five major cricket nations—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan—along with 25 smaller associate members. With Naqvi stepping in, the focus turns to whether this change can smooth over political friction and keep the game’s biggest rivalries alive
