Is PSL 2025 at Risk of Postponement Amid India-Pakistan Tensions?

08 May, 2025 14:57

The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan have cast serious doubts over the continuation of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, with recent missile and drone attacks significantly raising security concerns.

According to national media reports, escalating hostilities — including missile strikes on Wednesday night and drone attacks earlier today — have placed the fate of the PSL matches in jeopardy. A crucial meeting involving officials from the Ministry of Interior and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to be held shortly to decide whether the remaining fixtures of the tournament will proceed as scheduled.

Today, Indian drones reportedly targeted multiple locations across Pakistan. In response, the Pakistan Army successfully shot down 12 surveillance drones, according to a briefing by Director General ISPR, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.

“The Pakistan Army neutralized the Indian drones,” he confirmed, adding that four military personnel sustained injuries during the operation. Additionally, one civilian was martyred and another injured in the city of Ghotki.

Lieutenant General Chaudhry emphasized that India had displayed similar aggression a day earlier, and characterized the drone incursions and cross-border attacks as “open aggression.”

With the security landscape rapidly evolving, authorities are weighing the risks of hosting public events like PSL 2025 in the current climate. A final decision regarding the league’s future is expected following the upcoming high-level security meeting.
