Aberdeen’s Jack MacKenzie Injured by Object Thrown During Pitch Invasion at Dundee United

17 May, 2025 19:49

Aberdeen footballer Jack MacKenzie was left with a serious injury after being hit by an object during a chaotic scene at Tannadice Park on Saturday, May 11, 2025. The incident happened after Aberdeen lost their Scottish Premiership match to Dundee United.

MacKenzie, who was an unused substitute in the game, was standing on the pitch when the Dundee United fans began a pitch invasion. It is believed that a seat or similar object was thrown from the area where Aberdeen supporters were seated. Sadly, the object struck MacKenzie in the face, causing a bleeding injury.

The injury was serious enough that the defender needed stitches. Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin spoke to BBC Scotland after the match. He said, “Jack is ok but it’s quite a bad injury. It’s not acceptable that this happened to one of our players.”

Thelin added that the player was only doing his job and trying to support his team. “He gives everything for Aberdeen. He should not be hurt like this,” he said.

The away section of Aberdeen fans had already faced restrictions in this game. This was due to past trouble, including an incident when objects were thrown at Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin during a previous match.

Goodwin, who used to manage Aberdeen, also shared his thoughts. “It’s disgraceful,” he said. “I left the pitch quickly because of problems with Aberdeen fans before. It’s shocking to hear that Jack was hit by one of his own fans.”

He continued, “This kind of thing needs action. The people who do this must be found and banned. They make the club look bad.”

The image from the match showed MacKenzie lying on the ground with blood on his face. It clearly shows the serious nature of the incident.

Scottish football authorities are expected to investigate the event. Aberdeen fans and officials are calling for stricter security and identification of the person responsible.
