West Indies Cricketer Shamar Joseph Faces Serious Allegations

28 June, 2025 16:02

A serious controversy has shaken West Indies cricket as rising fast bowler Shamar Joseph faces multiple accusations of sexual misconduct. Media reports from Guyana, Joseph’s home country, claim that at least 11 women have come forward with allegations, including harassment, assault, and even rape.

Among the accusers is an 18-year-old who alleged an assault took place in March 2023 in Berbice. Her family reported the incident to police, but the case reportedly stalled due to a leak of sensitive information to the cricketer’s relatives.

While Shamar Joseph was not officially named in early reports, media outlets strongly hinted at his identity by linking him to the West Indies team that beat Australia in Brisbane in 2024—a historic win that brought him international praise.

Despite the growing attention, Cricket West Indies responded cautiously, stating:
“Cricket West Indies has not received any communication or official information and is therefore unable to comment at this time.”

Critics are now questioning whether the West Indies Cricket Board may have shielded the player, especially as he continues to be selected for international matches, including the team’s recent loss to Australia. No formal charges have been filed yet, but legal teams representing the alleged victims say further steps may follow soon.

With the next Test against Australia on July 3, the cricket world is closely watching whether Shamar Joseph remains in the squad, potentially turning this into one of the sport’s most high-profile legal and ethical cases.
