Double Delight for Pakistan as Mohammad Asif and Hasnain Akhtar Win IBSF Titles in Bahrain
Pakistan’s snooker champions delivered a day to remember, as Mohammad Asif captured the IBSF World Masters Championship title in a tense final against India’s Brijesh Damani, while Hasnain Akhtar triumphed in the IBSF World U17 Snooker Championship.
Veteran Pakistani cueist Mohammad Asif clinched another career milestone by beating India’s Brijesh Damani 4-3 in the final at Crowne Plaza Bahrain. This marks Asif’s sixth world title, adding to his impressive legacy in the sport.
The match was a rollercoaster. Asif dominated early, taking the first two frames with scores of 98-37 and 75-55. But Damani responded fiercely, winning the next three frames (80-0, 52-49, 64-41) and taking a 3-2 lead.
Asif, with nerves of steel, fought back with a brilliant 91-29 win in the sixth frame and then sealed the match with a crushing 78-9 final frame.
“This was one of the toughest matches of my career. But I kept my focus,” Asif said after the win.
With this title, Asif now has three individual world titles and two team titles to his name, further solidifying his status as Pakistan’s most successful snooker player.
PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Applauds Asif’s Victory
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Asif on his thrilling win.
“Well done, Mohammad Asif. The nation is proud of you,” said Naqvi in a statement. “Asif has raised Pakistan’s pride once again by beating an Indian rival on the world stage.”
Naqvi praised Asif’s hard work and dedication and said such achievements continue to lift Pakistan’s image globally.
Hasnain Akhtar Wins U17 World Title in Style
Earlier the same day, 16-year-old Hasnain Akhtar made history by becoming the first Pakistani to win the IBSF World U17 Snooker Championship. He dominated Wales’ Riley Powell with a 4-0 straight-frames victory.
Hasnain’s scores — 86-7, 73-35, 50-31, and 98-4 — reflected total control. He impressed the audience with two strong breaks of 44 and 67 during the match.
The final was officiated by Bahrain’s Nadhem Ahmed, and Hasnain never allowed Powell a chance to recover. The win adds to Hasnain’s growing reputation, following his Asian U21 Championship victory earlier this year.
With two world titles in one day, Pakistan’s snooker scene is on a high. Asif and Hasnain’s triumphs highlight both the country’s experienced talent and its promising future stars.
