PCB Bans Pakistani Players from Upcoming World Championship of Legends

03 August, 2025 11:15

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) prohibited Pakistani players from participating in the upcoming World Championship of Legends (WCL).

The decision was taken during a recent meeting of the PCB Board of Governors chaired by the Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The board expressed strong disappointment and condemned the WCL for exhibiting double standards and a biased approach. The PCB criticized the WCL for its unilateral decision to award points to a team that deliberately refused to play matches, calling it contrary to the spirit of the game.

According to the PCB, the press release issued by the WCL regarding the cancellation of Pakistan Legends’ matches reflected clear double standards. The board further accused the organizers of politicizing sports and subordinating the championship’s larger purpose to narrow commercial interests.

The PCB emphasized its longstanding stance on separating sports from politics and lamented the breach of fundamental tournament principles under external pressures. The board described the WCL’s biased behavior as dangerous and concerning for the future of the sport.

The WCL’s apology was seen as an indirect admission that match cancellations were influenced not by sportsmanship but by a narrow nationalist agenda. The PCB declared such partial and prejudiced conduct unacceptable in the international sports community.

As a result, the PCB announced that it will not send its team to future editions of the WCL or permit participation in any tournament marred by political interference.
