Pakistan’s Young Economists Win Silver, Broneze Medals at International Economics Olympiad 2025
Pakistan secured a silver and two bronze medals at the 2025 International Economics Olympiad (IEO) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from July 20 to 29.
Ameenah Babar won the silver medal, while Sarim Haseeb and Zarar Tariq claimed bronze for the country. The event saw participants from 68 nations.
The five-member Pakistani team, chosen through the National Economics Competition, included Ameenah Babar (Trinity School Lahore), Zarar Tariq and Sarim Haseeb (TNS Lahore), Sarah Shahzad (Beaconhouse Islamabad), and Aayan Niazi (Karachi Grammar School). The team was led and coached by Shahwali Najmi, with expenses covered by the Punjab chief minister’s office.
The IEO evaluates participants on economics, finance, and business case studies, promoting teamwork in addressing global economic issues. Pakistan’s performance underscores its growing emphasis on economic education. The 2026 Olympiad is scheduled to be held in China.
