Sirbaz Khan, Abid Baig Become First Pakistanis to Summit Tirich Mir
Pakistani mountaineers Sirbaz Khan and Abid Baig have created history by becoming the first climbers from Pakistan to scale Tirich Mir, the highest peak of the Hindu Kush mountain range.
Tirich Mir, located in Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stands at 7,708 meters and is known as one of the most difficult peaks in the region. The successful climb was part of a provincial government-backed expedition of seven members.
While Khan and Baig reached the summit, the other five members of the team climbed up to 7,300 meters but had to return because of bad weather. The team included Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority Director Umar Khan, Dr. Naveed Iqbal, Major Muhammad Atif, Shams-ul-Qamar, and Akmal Naveed.
Both Sirbaz Khan and Abid Baig belong to Gilgit-Baltistan and completed the climb with support from provincial authorities.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur congratulated the climbers and announced that the years 2025–26 will be marked as the “Year of Tirich Mir” to promote mountaineering and tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
