ICC Agrees to Remove Match Referee on PCB's Demand: Indian Media
In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has accepted the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) demand to remove match referee Andy Pycroft from Pakistan’s remaining matches and replace him with Richie Richardson in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, according to Indian media reports.
The ICC’s decision came after PCB raised concerns over Pycroft’s allegedly biased behavior during the high-profile Pakistan-India encounter. The PCB claimed that the match referee acted unfairly and notably did not allow the traditional handshake during the toss — a gesture considered part of cricket’s spirit.
Taking a firm stance, the PCB formally requested the ICC to replace Pycroft, arguing that his conduct was inappropriate and not in line with the spirit of the game. Indian media reports confirm that the ICC has now removed Andy Pycroft from officiating in any of Pakistan’s upcoming matches in the tournament.
Reportedly, the PCB had also warned of withdrawing from the remainder of the T20 Asia Cup if the referee was not replaced.
Meanwhile, the PCB has not yet made a final decision regarding Pakistan’s continued participation in the Asia Cup following the controversy surrounding the Pakistan-India match. A PCB spokesperson stated that any decision will be taken keeping Pakistan’s best interests in view.
Pakistan is scheduled to play against the UAE today, but clarity on the match will only come after the PCB announces its final decision.
