Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan deny ICC charges over India match gestures

BCCI Officially Lodges Complaint Against Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan
Dubai, 26 September 2025 – Pakistan cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan appeared before match referee Richie Richardson to respond to India’s complaint of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup clash.
During the high-voltage Pakistan vs India match, Sahibzada Farhan celebrated his fifty by raising his bat like a gun and pretending to fire shots. Meanwhile, fast bowler Haris Rauf responded to taunts from Indian fans near the boundary by making an airplane crash gesture after taking a wicket.
The Indian cricket board was unhappy with these celebrations and lodged an official complaint with the ICC. Despite winning the match, India argued that the gestures were inappropriate and carried political meaning.
Hearing Before Match Referee
According to sources, Richie Richardson asked several questions from both players. The cricketers also submitted written replies defending their actions. They strongly denied the charges.
Farhan said his celebration was not political. He explained that it was a traditional way of celebrating in Pashtun culture and not targeted at India.
Haris Rauf was questioned about the “0-6 hand gesture” and airplane signal. He asked the referee to explain what meaning was being assumed. “Tell me, what do you think it means? There is no proof behind these claims,” Haris reportedly said, leaving Richardson silent.
Rauf further clarified that his gesture was aimed at the crowd only and nothing beyond that.
ICC’s Action Against Indian Captain
On the other side, Pakistan’s complaint against Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav also made progress. ICC has already warned him for bringing politics into cricket, and reports suggest he might face a fine soon.
Both Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan denied the allegations firmly. Their defense suggests that the issue may fade unless ICC finds strong evidence. For now, fans on both sides are closely watching what decision ICC will take in the coming days.
