Mohsin Naqvi refuses BCCI’s request for Asia Cup Trophy handover

Mohsin Naqvi refuses BCCI’s request for Asia Cup Trophy handover
The 2025 Asia Cup may be over, but the controversy around it is still making headlines. The latest twist came on Tuesday in Dubai, where Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi rejected India’s demand to hand over the tournament trophy.
India won the Asia Cup but did not receive the trophy at the ceremony because Indian players refused to accept it directly from Mohsin Naqvi. In response, the ACC chief removed the trophy from the stage, marking a shocking and first-ever incident in a major cricket event.
The issue came up again during an ACC meeting where BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla demanded the trophy be given to India. However, Mohsin Naqvi refused, saying the matter was not on the meeting’s agenda.
He even remarked that if India wanted the trophy, their captain should come to the ACC headquarters to collect it.
This angered the Indian officials, who attended the meeting online. They suggested the trophy should instead be sent to the ICC headquarters. As tempers rose, other ACC members stepped in to cool things down, but the Indian delegation eventually left the meeting abruptly.
The Asia Cup 2025 was already full of controversies—players avoiding handshakes, refusing the trophy, and political tensions between both sides. Now, the trophy dispute has added another chapter to the Pakistan–India cricket rivalry.
For now, the trophy remains with the ACC, and no final decision has been made about its delivery to India. One thing is clear: this Asia Cup will be remembered for drama both on and off the field.
