‘Ignored Despite Climbing All 14 Peaks’: Shehroze Kashif Slams Govt Over Broken Promises

22 October, 2025 15:15

Pakistan’s youngest mountaineer, Shehroze Kashif, has once again voiced deep frustration over the government’s failure to deliver the financial rewards it promised for his historic achievements.

At just 22 years old, Kashif has climbed all 14 of the world’s highest peaks above 8,000 meters, proudly raising Pakistan’s flag at every summit. Despite earning national and international recognition, he says the government has not provided the promised financial support.

“I’ve spent nearly 40 million rupees to make my country proud,” Kashif said. “I sold my land and my car and still remain in debt. How can anyone treat a person like this who has brought global recognition to Pakistan?”

National Hero Left Without Support

Earlier this year, Shehroze was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s second-highest civilian award, for his remarkable mountaineering record. Yet, he claims that the cash prize and assistance he was promised remain unpaid.

The young climber tagged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and the Federal Minister for Information in his social media posts, urging them to take action.

A Journey of Sacrifice and Pain

Shehroze Kashif began his mountaineering career at just 11 years old when he summited Makra Peak (3,885m). He later became the youngest person to climb Mount Everest and K2, earning the nickname “Broad Boy” after scaling Broad Peak, his first 8,000-meter mountain.

However, his passion has come at a heavy cost. Kashif recently underwent a spinal surgery and now has metal rods in his back, making walking difficult. He says no government department has helped with his medical expenses.

Considering Moving Abroad

Despite his patriotism, Shehroze warned that if the government continues to ignore him, he may move abroad to seek better opportunities and recognition.

“How can the country ignore someone who has climbed all 14 eight-thousanders?” he questioned. “If this continues, I will have to think about my future elsewhere.”

This is not the first time Shehroze has raised such concerns. Back in 2022, he also criticized the lack of government support, even after setting international records that made Pakistan proud.
