Fakhar Zaman Fined Match Fee for ICC Code Violation

After being found guilty of violating the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct during the Tri-eries final versus Sri Lanka on November 29, Pakistani batsman Fakhar Zaman was fined 10% of his match fee.

According to an ICC press release on Friday, Zaman was judged to have violated Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.”

His first infraction in a 24-month period has resulted in the addition of one demerit point to his disciplinary record.

After being dismissed, the left-handed hitter got into a heated altercation with the on-field umpires in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings.

Reon King of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees suggested the punishment.

The accusation was brought by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Asif Yaqoob, as well as third umpire Rashid Riaz and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi.

There was no need for a formal hearing because Zaman acknowledged the offense and accepted the punishment.

Level 1 infractions result in one or two demerit points, an official reprimand, and a maximum fine of 50% of the player’s match fee. In the final, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to win the tri-series.

Batting first at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the Lankan Lions were bowled out for 114 in 19.1 overs, with opening hitter Kamil Mishara the sole significant performer, smashing 59 off 47 deliveries, including two fours and four sixes.

The Green Shirts’ best bowlers were Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz, who each claimed three wickets, Abrar Ahmed, who took two, and Salman Mirza and Saim Ayub, who each claimed one.

The hosts lost four wickets in 18.4 overs as they chased down the score in response.

Openers Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan scored 36 and 23 runs, respectively, while Babar Azam played an undefeated innings of 37 off 34 deliveries, featuring two fours and one six.
