Stephen Curry Scores 48, But Warriors Fall to Portland
Portland, Oregon — The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Golden State Warriors 136-131 on Sunday night, ending a three-game losing run. Jerami Grant and Shaedon Sharpe both scored 35 points.
For the Warriors, Stephen Curry scored 48 points. He made a season-high 12 3-pointers, which is the 28th time in the NBA that he has made ten or more in a game.
Toumani Camara’s alley-oop dunk from Donovan Clingan tied the Blazers at 121 in a back-and-forth final quarter, but Curry responded with a 3-pointer and a layup.
Portland led 127-126, but Curry scored a three-pointer once again. Deni Avdija made two free throws with 19.9 seconds remaining to extend Portland’s lead to 132-129 after Grant’s basket and free throw gave them a one-point advantage.
With 13.2 seconds remaining, Moses Moody’s dunk put the Warriors ahead 134-131, but Grant’s free throws increased the advantage to 136-131. Grant had a season-high seven 3-pointers in the end.
Curry was participating in his second game following five consecutive absences due to a bruise to his left quadriceps. On Friday night, he scored 39 points in Golden State’s 127-120 home loss to Minnesota.
After missing the game against the Timberwolves due to personal circumstances, Draymond Green made his Golden State debut. Prior to that, he missed two games due to a sprained right foot.
Caleb Love’s 3-pointer late in the first quarter gave Portland a 34-23 lead, but the Warriors narrowed the gap and led 62-61 at the half.
In the third quarter, Curry’s consecutive 3-pointers increased Golden State’s advantage to 79-70, their largest lead of the game thus far.
Green was called for a technical foul and committed eight turnovers, four of which occurred in the third quarter.
After the Blazers and Warriors were eliminated from the NBA Cup, the game was added to the schedule.
