PM announces Rs10m to each player after Pakistan U19 Asia Cup triumph
After winning the Under-19 Asia Cup, the Pakistan cricket team held a press conference at a private hotel to talk about their journey, challenges, and teamwork behind the victory. Head coach Shahid Anwar, mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed, and PCB officials attended the event, highlighting the planning and preparation that led to their success.
Playing Fearless Cricket
Coach Shahid Anwar said the team decided early on to play fearless cricket, supporting each other and aiming to win both the trophy and the hearts of fans. Preparation began on June 17, when 70 players were called for trials. The selected players were then given opportunities in ODI tournaments to gain confidence and experience under pressure.
Support from the Prime Minister
Mentor Sarfaraz Ahmed shared that the team met with the Prime Minister, who praised their performance and announced Rs10 million for each player. He expressed hope that this squad would continue winning trophies for Pakistan.
Team Effort Leads to Victory
Sarfaraz emphasized that the win was a team effort, not about individual performances. Key partnerships from Usman Khan and Ahmed Hussain and contributions from the lower order were crucial. He said every player stayed motivated and worked hard together, which led to the team’s success.
Aggressive and Positive Approach
Batsman Sameer Minhas said the team played aggressive cricket against India following management instructions. Although he made a mistake in the first match against India, he performed strongly later, especially against Bangladesh. He credited Allah for his success and aimed to keep performing for the team.
Unity, Responsibility, and Maturity
Player Farhan Yousuf said the management encouraged natural, fearless cricket, and although he was not satisfied with his performance, he promised to improve. Sarfaraz Ahmed also noted that the Indian team’s attitude was negative, but he advised Pakistani players to maintain dignity and focus on memorable cricket.
Bright Future Ahead
Sarfaraz and the coaching staff praised the players for their mindset, maturity, and teamwork. With the PM’s encouragement and reward, the players felt even more motivated. Both coaches and players expressed confidence that this Under-19 squad has the talent and mindset to achieve more victories for Pakistan in the future.
