11 January, 2026 16:30

Ankita Karim has made history as the first professional female MMA fighter in Pakistan. She won the title in the 52kg weight category during the MMA League Infinity Championship held in Islamabad on Sunday. Hailing from Hunza, Karim has previously achieved impressive victories in international competitions.

In the final bout of the female 52kg category at the Infinity Championship, she faced Iranian fighter Parisa ‘Shamsh’ Abadi and stunned everyone with a first-round knockout victory.

The Infinity Championship provides rising Pakistani fighters a platform to showcase their skills on home ground. Karim’s triumph is a landmark achievement for women’s combat sports and is expected to inspire more young women to pursue professional careers in MMA. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that combines techniques from boxing, grappling, karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and kickboxing.

Fighters in a typical MMA match often sustain bloodied faces, bruised bodies, swollen eyes, and sometimes broken limbs.

After her victory, Karim said, “Winning the championship in my homeland is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I hope my achievement inspires more Pakistani women to pursue careers in MMA and other sports as well.”

Fans and experts have praised her performances, skills, agility, and tactical intelligence in the ring. Many believe her success will contribute to building a more organized and professional MMA scene in Pakistan.

Her victory comes at a time of growing regional interest in combat sports, highlighting the positive impact of initiatives by Pakistan’s governing bodies to promote female participation.
