Pakistan Futsal Teams Record First-Ever International Wins in Thailand

At the SAFF Futsal Championship in Thailand, Pakistan’s futsal teams recorded their first-ever international wins, marking a historic milestone. The accomplishment represents a significant advancement for the sport in the nation.

The men’s team delivered an incredible performance at Bangkok’s Hua Mak Indoor Arena. Pakistan defeated Bhutan 4–2 after overcoming an early setback. Dawa Shering’s two quick goals gave Bhutan an early lead, putting pressure on Pakistan in the opening minutes of play. However, Pakistan responded with composure and discipline.

Hassan Zafar scored in the 28th minute to close the gap and shift the momentum. The team leveled the score when Asif Ahmed Chaudhry equalized in the 32nd minute. Shortly after, Adnan Ashfaq scored two goals in quick succession (34th and 35th minutes) to complete the comeback and secure a historic victory.

This win demonstrated notable progress for the men’s team following a heavy defeat in their opening game against the Maldives. The triumph highlighted improved mental toughness, tactical awareness, and teamwork.

A day earlier, the women’s futsal squad had already made history by securing their first international win, defeating Sri Lanka 3–2. Azwa Chaudhry was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant hat trick to clinch the match.

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) commended the remarkable achievements of both teams. Officials emphasized that these victories were attained despite the nation’s limited futsal infrastructure and resources. The federation stated that these wins represent a “sea change” in the evolution of futsal in Pakistan.

PFF President Mohsen Gilani praised the players and coaches, stating that the accomplishment was the result of dedication, hard work, and belief. He added that the federation intends to capitalize on this momentum to further develop futsal on both a national and international scale.
