Who is Shahzaib Bhatti? Rising Pakistani Spinner Quits Cricket at 24 Over Politics and Corruption

On 9 March 2026, young Pakistani spinner Shahzaib Bhatti announced that he is quitting professional cricket at the age of 24. The decision quickly spread on social media and shocked many cricket fans in Pakistan.

Shahzaib Bhatti is a domestic cricketer from Sialkot, Pakistan. He is known as a right-arm spin bowler and a useful lower-order batsman. He was considered one of the promising young players in Pakistan’s domestic cricket system.

Bhatti first gained attention in late 2024. In his second first-class match, he took an impressive five-wicket haul, which made him a player to watch in domestic cricket.

His biggest moment came during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final in January 2025. Playing for Sialkot, Bhatti scored 40 runs in the first innings. Later, he played another important knock of 32 not out and hit the winning runs as Sialkot secured a dramatic one-wicket victory in the final.

After that success, his career suddenly slowed down. Bhatti did not play any first-class match for Sialkot for more than 14 months. This raised questions among fans about why a talented player was not getting chances.

In October 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced 157 domestic contracts. Bhatti’s name was not included in the list, which was another setback for the young spinner.

Bhatti later said that politics, corruption, and poor structure in domestic cricket were the main reasons behind his decision to quit the game.

His announcement created strong reactions from cricket fans. Many supporters asked the PCB to review the situation and give fair opportunities to talented players.
