Chinese app DeepSeek users to face strict punishment
US lawmakers have proposed a new law that would allow heavy fines to be imposed on those who use the Chinese AI app DeepSeek.
The bill, introduced by Republican Senator Josh Hawley, aims to prevent US citizens from using Chinese artificial intelligence.
After the passage of the law, the import of technology made in China can be stopped and the violator will face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $1 million, and if the violation is done by a business, the fine will increase to $100 million.
Although DeepSeek is not named in the law, it comes just a week after the introduction of the Chinese chatbot, which has now become the most popular AI app in the United States and is hurting American tech stocks.
It should be noted that US President Donald Trump has called the Chinese app an alarm bell for the American tech industry.
