TikTok returns to Apple, Google app stores in US
TikTok on Thursday returned to Apple and Google app stores after President Donald Trump delayed a ban on the Chinese-owned social media app.
Nearly half of Americans enjoy the popular short video app, which went dark briefly last month after law came into effect on January 19 that requires its Chinese owner ByteDance either to sell it on national security grounds or face a ban.
However, a day after Trump signed an executive order seeking to delay the enforcement of the ban, the app is now restored for 75 days.
Thought, TikTok immediately restored services in the US, but Google and Apple kept the app removed from their app stores in the country.
However, TikTok, the second-most downloaded app in the U.S. last year, could be downloaded from U.S. app stores by new users on Thursday.
The delay could have been because Google (GOOGL.O), opens new tab and Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab were awaiting assurances that they would not be prosecuted for hosting or distributing the app, according to analysts.
