Another solar system discovered 6 light-years from Earth
There is a star closest to the Sun called the Bernard star and scientists have found that it has more than one planet in its orbit.
The red dwarf star, about six light-years from Earth, has four planets, each two to three times the mass of Mars.
University of Chicago astronomer Ritwick Basant said Bernard star’s signals have a long history of detection, but none of them could be confirmed. Because it is interesting to know what is revolving around the nearest stars.
From 2021 to 2023, Ritwick and his colleagues observed the Bernard star 112 times using the Marvin-X spectrograph at the Gemini North Telescope in Hawaii.
“I started seeing signals in the dataset but since we were still calibrating the device, we ignored it,” Ritwick said.
Last October, a team using ESPRESSO spectrographs on a telescope in Chile reported evidence of a planet orbiting the star Bernard, named only B, and only indications of three others.
With these signals in mind, Ritwick and colleagues re-examined their data that confirmed three other planets.
