ChatGPT’s voice mode gets an upgrade – Here’s what’s new

25 March, 2025 15:15

OpenAI is stepping up its game in the world of AI voice assistants. The company has rolled out a new update for ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, aiming to make conversations more natural and interruption-free.

According to OpenAI, the latest update allows ChatGPT to hold smoother, real-time voice chats, giving the AI a more human-like personality and reducing the chances of it cutting users off mid-sentence.

The improvements were shared by Manuka Stratta, a post-training researcher at OpenAI, in a video posted on the company’s official social media accounts, as reported by TechCrunch.

Previously, users often found the voice mode frustrating—especially when the AI interrupted them during brief pauses or while they were thinking. This update is specifically designed to fix that issue, making the interaction feel more like a real conversation.

Those using paid versions of ChatGPT—including subscribers to Plus, Teams, Edu, Business, and Pro plans—will notice the biggest difference. The AI is now said to be more engaging, creative, concise, and specific in its responses, making it feel more like a helpful assistant than just a chatbot.

The good news for free users is that they’re not left out. The improved voice mode is now also available to them, allowing for more fluid chats without interruptions when they pause.

With this update, OpenAI is clearly aiming to deliver a more seamless, natural talking experience—making ChatGPT not just smarter but easier and more pleasant to talk to.
