After 12 years, GeoGuessr finally arrives on steam

GeoGuessr, the popular geography-based game that challenges players to identify real-world locations using Google Street View, is set to launch on Steam in Early Access in April 2025.

The move comes after 12 years of being exclusively a browser-based experience.

Since its debut in 2013, GeoGuessr has gained a large global player base and developed a competitive esports scene.

The upcoming Steam version aims to enhance the game’s competitive aspect by introducing ranked Solo Duels and unranked Team Duels, offering structured matchmaking.

It will also support cross-play with the existing browser version.

According to its Steam listing, the Early Access period will last a minimum of six months, during which developers plan to introduce additional game modes, maps, and competitive features.

However, the exact release date and pricing details have yet to be announced.

Currently, GeoGuessr’s browser version limits free users to three daily guesses before requiring a subscription starting at $2.49 per month.

The mobile app on iOS and Android is available through a $2.99 Pro Unlimited plan.

Unlike these versions, the Steam edition will have a separate account system, with its pricing structure yet to be determined.
