WhatsApp set to introduce advanced chat privacy controls

04 April, 2025 15:16

WhatsApp is all set to unveil an advanced chat privacy feature to limit message sharing and also add a new privacy layer to user conversations.

The latest feature will be released in a future update, WABetaInfo reported.

It citied the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.10.14 update that is available on the Google Play Store.

The new advanced chat privacy feature of the popular Meta-owned instant messaging app will allow users to restrict media from being automatically saved to the device gallery.

It is to be mentioned here this restriction already applies to chats with disappearing messages. Now, WhatsApp seems to be extending it to users who will enable the optional advanced chat privacy feature in the future.

The latest feature will introduce a number of privacy protections, including restrictions on exporting entire chat histories. This will also enable the app to block the export of chat histories, which include messages from users who have activated this setting, helping to safeguard private conversations and prevent unauthorised data transfers.

The new feature will not stop message forwarding to maintain usability. Additionally, in case the advanced chat privacy is enabled, participants in the same conversation will not be able to interact with Meta AI in any way.
