WhatsApp Introduces AI to Help You Write Messages

Juggling multiple WhatsApp accounts may soon be just a tap away
WhatsApp is working on a new feature called Writing Help, designed to improve how users compose messages while protecting their privacy. Currently in beta for iOS (version 25.18.10.79 via TestFlight), the AI-powered tool will help enhance texts in real time.
The feature will appear directly in the message typing area, suggesting edits to improve clarity, tone, or phrasing. WhatsApp says the tool runs on a secure system known as Private Processing, which ensures that “messages are never stored or linked to individual identities.” All AI processing takes place in a privacy-safe environment.
Users will be able to choose from different writing tones based on their needs—“professional formatting for workplace communication, playful edits for casual chats, and supportive language for empathetic interactions.” More options will be added over time.
If a user selects a suggestion, their message will be replaced with the AI-improved version—but “the recipient remains unaware that AI was used.”
Importantly, WhatsApp confirms that “Writing Help will be entirely optional” and can be turned on or off in the app’s settings. Users can ignore suggestions at any time. The feature only analyzes the current message being typed—it doesn’t access previous chats or history.
Feedback on suggestions can be submitted anonymously to improve the feature without compromising privacy, as “users can provide anonymous satisfaction ratings” instead of sharing message content.
