WhatsApp Rolls Out AI Wallpaper Feature for Beta Testers

WhatsApp is testing a new feature in its latest Android beta (version 2.25.19.11) that lets users generate chat wallpapers using Meta AI. This exciting update is currently available to select beta users, with a wider rollout expected soon.

How It Works:

The new option appears in chat theme settings, allowing users to create customized wallpapers powered by AI. It can be applied globally or set individually for specific chats.

Users can choose from pre-generated AI wallpaper samples or write custom prompts to create designs. “Meta AI processes these prompts and generates wallpapers based on the user’s description.” These wallpapers can then be reviewed, refined, and edited further.

This upgrade offers more variety and creativity for users, who previously had to choose from WhatsApp’s default backgrounds or images in their media gallery. WhatsApp is also working on expanding its collection of default chat themes.

While the feature is part of the current beta, not all users will see it right away. WhatsApp is gradually making it available, including to some users on earlier beta versions.

At this point, there’s no confirmed release date for when the feature will appear in the official stable version of the app.
