WhatsApp status ads feature: Check details
WhatsApp has started showing ads in its “Status” feature to help businesses reach more people, international media reports.
The popular messaging app is working on new ways to earn revenue, and its latest Android beta update brings two new features: Status Ads and Promoted Channels. These updates are now being tested in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.21.11 and are only available to a small number of Android users for now.
The Status Ads work like Instagram Stories ads. Businesses can now post sponsored content in the Status section, which will appear between updates from friends and family. These ads will be clearly marked as “Sponsored”, so users know which posts are personal and which are promotional.
Users will also get the option to block certain advertisers if they don’t want to see their ads in the future.
These features are aimed at helping businesses and content creators connect with a larger audience on WhatsApp.
